Generative art has been a hot topic over the last few years. Is it really art? Is it ripping off other artists? A digital artist is laying these criticisms to rest with his new NFT collection.

This groundbreaking project is stirring the pot of creativity and technological prowess. Cape Town’s own Andries Odendaal, a digital artist known for his innovative edge, recently unveiled his latest brainchild, FABRIK.

This gem in the generative art sphere emerged from a collaboration with Stephen Young, co-founder of NFTFi. Here’s everything you need to know about this project. And, of course, the big question is, can you get your hands on one of these pieces?

Introducing FABRIK

The FABRIK series is not your typical NFT collection. It’s a daring exploration into the realm of NFTs, with a limited edition of 1,024 pieces that redefine the boundaries of digital art.

This project, a testament to Odendaal’s unwavering commitment and his drive to innovate, was created using complex algorithms. The code designed the project using simple geometric shapes to create intricate arrangements reminiscent of natural patterns found in geological strata and architectural marvels.

Odendaal’s foray into this project showcases a blend of high-level programming skills and artistic flair – a combination that’s as rare and intense as it is mesmerizing.

According to Young, Odendaal’s ability to translate complex mathematical concepts into stunning visual art sets him apart in the field. This project is a visual feast and an artistic narrative on the dualities of structure and change as well as permanence and decay.

The project was crafted without reliance on external libraries, and all metadata was stored on-chain.

Weaving the Fabric Into FABRIK

The name “FABRIK” itself, with its phonetic play and multiple meanings across languages, reflects the essence of the project. It’s an underlying structure or “fabric” of artistic endeavor, merging the notion of fabrication with the straightforwardness of a factory-produced item. And yet, each piece remains distinct and personal.

For the NFTFi community, this launch is more than a milestone. It’s a token of appreciation. It’s a gesture from Young to those who share his passion for the intersection of art and technology.

The decision to initiate a free mint exclusive to this community underlines a spirit of gratitude and the desire to enrich the collectors’ domain with something truly unprecedented.

Andries Odendaal’s trajectory in digital art has always been marked by innovation, from his early contributions to the interactive media space to recognition as a forward-thinker in the realm of generative NFT art. With projects like FABRIK, he cements his status as a pioneer and challenges us to reimagine the future of digital artistry.

In a world where digital art is gaining unprecedented momentum, FABRIK shines as a beacon of what’s possible when technology meets creativity.

It reminds us that thoughtful, intricate artistry can make a lasting impact in the ephemeral landscape of digital creations. For those lucky enough to snag one of these NFTs, it’s a piece of the digital frontier worth cherishing.

FABRIK Will Be Available on the Secondary Market

One thousand of the 1024 pieces are going to white-listed members of the NFTFi community. The rest will be distributed among the artist and the NFTFi team. So, if you want to buy one, you’ll have to visit NFTFi after release to see who’s willing to let go of one of these special treasures.

Stephen Young is a co-founder of NFTFi and is responsible for commissioning this project. NFTFi is a disruptive NFT platform used for borrowing and lending. If you want more NFTs but you’re short on cash, NFTFi will let you use your collection as collateral and provide you with funds to do something else – whether that be to buy more art or pay your phone bill.

To date, the project has been used for over 50,000 loans, with a total loan volume of over half a billion dollars. This provides more use cases and utility for the NFT world. With the RWA narrative blowing up, this might be the best time to start betting on various projects. Both art NFTs and tokenized assets could be the next big thing in blockchain.

FC Barcelona has brought its ‘Masterpiece’ NFT collection to the Moco Museum in its home city. The collection features ten audiovisual NFTs that pay tribute to iconic moments and figures from the club’s storied history.

Celebrating Legends Through Digital Art

At the heart of this exhibition are two key pieces from the ‘Masterpiece’ collection. The first, titled In a Way, Immortal, immortalizes Johan Cruyff’s legendary goal against Atlético Madrid on December 22, 1973. The NFT sold for an impressive $693,000 at a live auction at Sotheby’s in New York in 2022.

The NFT titled “In a Way, Immortal,” inspired by a quote from Johan Cruyff, will be showcased on a large screen in the Moco Museum‘s main digital art room starting tomorrow. This room will also feature one of Cruyff’s many motivational quotes on its walls: “It’s better to go down with your own vision than with someone else’s.”

A 30-piece orchestra performs an original score accompanying the visual display, enhanced with authentic sounds from Spotify Camp Nou and cheers from FC Barcelona fans.

The second featured NFT, Empowerment, pays homage to current Barça player Alexia Putellas and her pivotal role in a Champions League semi-final against Wolfsburg. Moreover, this piece highlights Putellas’ contribution to advancing women’s sports and promoting gender equality, selling for $300,231.36 at an OpenSea auction.

Furthermore, screens throughout display images lauding Putellas’s character and the club’s dedication to women’s football, alongside the celebrated phrase from the two-time Ballon d’Or winner, “Football has no gender.”

Barcelona NFT: A Fusion of History and Innovation

The exhibition is open from April 25 to June 25, 2024, coinciding with what would have been Cruyff’s birthday. It offers a unique blend of historical reverence and modern digital artistry, providing visitors with an immersive experience that captures the essence of FC Barcelona’s cultural impact.

Lionel Logchies, founder of Moco Museum, commented on the partnership, saying, “Through this partnership, we’re fortunate to showcase the digital artworks of legends Johan Cruyff and Alexia Putellas. This collaboration merges the realms of contemporary art and sport, uniting both worlds…It reflects Moco’s values as a modern-day museum, echoing the voice of a new generation.”

From Cruyff’s iconic goal to Putellas’ leadership on and off the field, these NFTs celebrate individual achievements and the club’s broader contributions to society. By showcasing these digital artworks, FC Barcelona highlights its strategic embrace of technology and its commitment to promoting significant cultural narratives.

Ethereum-based NFT marketplace SuperRare has announced its expansion to the Bitcoin blockchain. This marks the entrance of one of the leading NFT art platforms into the world of Bitcoin Ordinals.

SuperRare’s Strategic Partnership

SuperRare, operating on the Ethereum blockchain, is a platform that focuses on single-edition, 1-of-1 digital artworks. Since its launch in 2018, it has been recognized as one of the pioneers in the NFT space.

SuperRare’s expansion to the Bitcoin blockchain is made possible through its collaboration with the Ordinals marketplace Gamma. This partnership will enable SuperRare to introduce inscriptions on its platform, a feature that was previously only available on Ethereum.

The “No Brainers” Collection by Killer Acid

To mark its entrance into the world of Bitcoin, SuperRare will be launching a new collection titled “No Brainers” on April 11, 2024. This exclusive collection, created by artist Rob Corradetti’s project Killer Acid, will feature 1-of-1 inscriptions on each artwork, ensuring their uniqueness.

While the specific pieces for this collection have yet to be unveiled, it is expected that they will showcase the iconic psychedelic-themed work that Killer Acid is known for.

Impact on Market Share Dynamics

The introduction of Ordinals trading on Bitcoin is starting to shift the dynamic of Ethereum being recognized as the leading network for NFTs in terms of trading volume. Thanks to the growing popularity of the Ordinals protocol, Bitcoin is now emerging as a major platform for minting digital artwork and collectibles.

SuperRare is strategizing to leverage the rising success of Magic Eden by expanding its operations to the Bitcoin blockchain. This move aims to tap into the shifting market share dynamics within the NFT space, where Magic Eden, a cross-chain marketplace supporting both Ethereum and Bitcoin, has experienced a notable surge in trading volume, positioning itself as a frontrunner in the NFT market.

Conclusion

The entrance of SuperRare into the world of Bitcoin not only showcases the growing popularity and potential of NFTs but also highlights the importance of cross-chain compatibility in this space. As more platforms support multiple blockchains, we expect to see even further growth and innovation in the NFT sector.

Art has long been a cornerstone of human expression, representing culture, history, and emotion. However, as technology advances and shapes our world, it is no surprise that the art world is also transforming. With this in mind, Hivemind Capital Partners has announced the launch of their Digital Culture Fund, focused on investing in the dynamic landscape of digital art.

A New Era for Art and Investment

The intersection of AI, blockchain technology, and fine art is sparking a cultural revolution, creating a unique art market characterized by its accessibility and digital roots. With esteemed art institutions like MoMA, LACMA, and Centre Pompidou taking an interest, digital art is on the brink of entering a new epoch.

Introducing blockchain technology into the art world has opened up a whole new realm of possibilities. As Hivemind notes, “We are witnessing history in the making” as this digital-native culture emerges. With barriers to entry lowered and the potential for increased accessibility, digital art could be ready for more major growth. The Digital Culture Fund aims to embrace this evolution by providing investors with an engaging and accessible means to participate in this cultural shift.

Referencing insights gained from the past NFT cycle, Hivemind also highlights their belief in digital art and culture as pioneering forces for the future. “Now, amidst signs of what we believe is a cyclical resurgence in the market, we’re thrilled to be providing this new investment product at this pivotal moment.”

Investing in the Future of Art

Hivemind’s team of curators has carefully assembled a collection that captures the essence of the generative and digital art movement. This includes works recognized in the digital art scene and emerging pieces from up-and-coming digital artists, showcasing the fund’s commitment to leading the way in institutionalizing digital art investment.

Despite Hivemind’s emphasis on elite, blue-chip generative artworks, it also accommodates a diverse array of digital culture manifestations, including AI art, glitch art, crypto culture, and the pioneering pieces of emerging digital artists.

Matt Zhang, the Founder and Managing Partner of Hivemind, highlights the transformative impact of web3 technology on the art world and beyond, stating, “We see this pattern recurring with web3 technology, which is not only redefining how we interact with and invest in art but is giving rise to a broader digital native culture. Launching out of the UK, the Hivemind Digital Culture Fund comprises iconic pieces that represent and celebrate this shift, offering collectors a chance to diversify their portfolios and be part of a movement we believe is poised for growth in the coming years.”

With Bloomberg reporting a fundraising target of $50 million, Hivemind is carving out a niche for institutional investors within the digital art market. As interest in this movement continues to grow, the fund provides a unique opportunity for investors to be a part of history while also diversifying their portfolios.

Palm Collective, in collaboration with Polygon Labs, has announced an exciting opportunity for artists to showcase their work at the NFT Paris event. This event, beginning February 23, brings together art and blockchain technology, providing a platform for artists to exhibit their creations in the world of NFTs.

The Call x Digital Art Contest

Under the banner of the PolyArts Community contest, known as Call x Digital Art, Palm Collective aims to honour three exceptional artists. What’s more, the selected winners will have the privilege of showcasing their artwork at the nous nous sommes déjà rencontrés. Polygon Labs host this exclusive exhibition during NFT Paris in partnership with The Sandbox and the Web3 fashion house SYKY.

Recognition and Grants

Apart from the opportunity for exposure, winners will receive a $500 grant from the Palm Foundation, further supporting their artistic journey. Furthermore, the artist receiving the most votes will earn the title of ‘Open Call Winner Proof’.

The exhibition will take place at the RÉAUMUR SPACE, an vacant retail venue in Paris’ 2nd Arrondissement. At the venue, projectors will cast the artworks and installations onto the space’s walls, creating a compelling visual display. The event, scheduled for February 23, will be attended by the top three artists and a guest of their choice.

Participation Guidelines

Artists who wish to participate in the contest need to create a Palm ID. The next step for artists is to mint their artwork on the Palm Network and submit it to the Palm Collective website. You can learn how to submit your art for the event here. Artists take note: the deadline for submissions is February 16 at 4 pm EST.

Furthermore, artists must disclose any involvement of AI in their artwork creation and adhere to specific submission guidelines. For example, participants can submit only one artwork, which must not have been minted on any blockchain previously.

Finally, Palm Collective’s commitment to integrating art with Web3 extends beyond NFT Paris. The Call x Design competition invited artists to design Nike Air Force 1 sneakers to be showcased at EthDenver. However, submissions for that competition closed on February 9. The blockchain community sees EthDenver and NFT Paris as major highlights, attracting over 60,000 attendees between them.

The Punk in Residence program invites artists from various mediums to explore the concept of “Punk” through their unique lens, utilizing advanced technology to create original artworks that challenge traditional notions of art.

While fostering creative experimentation is a key aspect of Punk in Residence, the program also offers technical support from Yuga Labs.

Collaborating with Top Talent: Introducing Abney

To kick off the program, CryptoPunks has partnered with renowned artist Nina Chanel Abney, known for her vibrant and thought-provoking pieces that explore themes of identity, race, and celebrity. In recognition of her pioneering role in the Punk in Residence initiative, the team gifted Abney Punk #72, a coveted CryptoPunks NFT. The announcement clarified that Abney and any artists participating in the future will equally share the financial proceeds with Yuga Labs from selling their digital works to the public.

Furthermore, artists involved in the program can be based anywhere in the world. They will benefit from continuous mentorship, technical advice, and production assistance while they develop new artworks. Finally, the announcement notes that collaborators don’t need a background in Web3.

The post Exploring The Success Of “Genesis Cat” Bitcoin-based Digital Art appeared first on NFT News Today.

]]>
The “Genesis Cat,” a standout digital art piece from the Taproot Wizards collection, recently fetched $254,000 at a Sotheby’s auction. This sale signifies not only the value of the Genesis Cat in the digital art market but also underscores the burgeoning interest in unique digital creations minted via the Bitcoin blockchain’s Ordinals protocol

The Ordinals Protocol and Its Impact on Digital Art

The Ordinals protocol, developed for the Bitcoin blockchain, has opened up new possibilities for digital art creators. Unlike the more commonly used Ethereum blockchain, which has faced scalability issues during times of high traffic, the Bitcoin blockchain’s Ordinals protocol allows for quick and secure transactions.

This feature was crucial in the success of “Genesis Cat,” as it attracted a high number of bidders and resulted in a record-breaking sale price. The success of this auction has sparked interest in other digital art platforms using the Ordinals protocol, which could result in further growth and development of this space.

The Intersection of Art and Technology

The artist behind “Genesis Cat,” Francisco Alarcon, is a pioneer in the intersection of technology and art. As both an artist and an engineer, he brings a unique perspective to his work, exploring the historical and conceptual aspects of digital imaging.

His creation, “Genesis Cat,” is not only a visually stunning piece but also holds symbolic meaning as part of the broader collection of Ordinals inscriptions auctioned by Sotheby’s. Alarcon’s work showcases the potential of digital art to transcend traditional forms and challenge the boundaries between art and technology.

The “Ordinals Curated Sale” at Sotheby’s

The auction at Sotheby’s featured a collection titled “Ordinals Curated Sale,” which included 19 lots from 11 different artists. The total earnings from this auction amounted to approximately $1.1 million, highlighting the growing demand for Bitcoin-based digital art.

One notable sale was “Black Rare Sat 20,159,999,999,999,” which fetched an impressive $165,100 and set a record sale price for a “Rare Satoshi.”

However, with this surge in interest and transactions related to Ordinals inscriptions, some blockchain purists have raised concerns about the congestion it causes on the Bitcoin network. This criticism highlights the ongoing debate within the crypto community about what constitutes “true” use of blockchain technology.

The Genesis Cat as a Tribute to OP_CAT

The Genesis Cat is a significant piece of the “Quantum Cats” series, consisting of 3,333 items and created by Taproot Wizards. This collection pays homage to the Bitcoin improvement proposal known as OP_CAT and serves as a representation of the rapidly evolving landscape of blockchain technology.

The success of this collection speaks to the growing interest in tapping into the potential of blockchain technology beyond just cryptocurrency. With its ability to provide secure and transparent ownership, it is no surprise that the art world has taken notice.

The Future of Bitcoin-based Digital Art

The sale of “Genesis Cat” at Sotheby’s marks a significant milestone for both digital art and the use of blockchain technology in this space. With the rise of platforms using the Ordinals protocol, we can expect to see further growth and development in this area.

But beyond just the financial success of these sales, the use of blockchain technology also brings a new level of transparency and security to digital art ownership. This could potentially transform the way traditional art institutions view and engage with digital art.

As for Francisco Alarcon, his work continues to push the boundaries of what is possible with technology and art. With his unique perspective and talent, we can expect to see more groundbreaking pieces from him in the future.

Conclusion

In conclusion, “Genesis Cat” has not only achieved record-breaking sales numbers but also shed light on the potential of Bitcoin-based digital art and its impact on the broader creative landscape. As this space continues to evolve, we can only imagine the exciting possibilities that lie ahead. So, it’s safe to say that the Genesis Cat is just the beginning of a new era in digital art.

Transforming the market for unique digital assets.

The post A Look at Coinbase’s AI Instamint Feature appeared first on NFT News Today.

]]>
Cryptocurrency exchange Coinbase introduces its latest feature, Instamint. The AI-powered tool allows users to effortlessly create their own non-fungible tokens (NFTs) on the platform.

The Need for Simplicity

NFTs have taken the world by storm, with a single digital artwork recently selling for a record-breaking $69 million. These unique digital assets have captured the attention of investors and artists alike, offering a new way to buy, sell, and own one-of-a-kind pieces.

However, creating NFTs can be a complicated and time-consuming process, requiring technical knowledge and resources. This has made it difficult for the average person to participate in the NFT market.

How Coinbase Instamint Works

Instamint simplifies the creation process by using artificial intelligence to generate unique artworks. Users can choose from a variety of styles and themes, and the AI will create an original piece based on their selections.

The tool also allows users to upload their own images and have them transformed into NFTs. This means that anyone, regardless of artistic ability, can now easily create and sell NFTs on Coinbase.

The Benefits of Instamint for Artists

One of the main advantages of Instamint is its accessibility for artists. By removing the technical barriers to creating NFTs, Coinbase is opening up the market to a whole new demographic.

Artists who may not have the resources or skills to create digital artwork can now use Instamint to quickly and easily generate high-quality NFTs. This allows them to explore new revenue streams and tap into the growing demand for unique digital assets.

Empowering Small Businesses and Brands

In addition to artists, small businesses and brands can also benefit from Instamint. By creating NFTs, they can connect with their audience in a new and innovative way.

NFTs offer a level of authenticity and ownership that traditional digital assets cannot match. This makes them an attractive option for companies looking to engage with their customers on a deeper level.

NFTs as Collateral for Loans

NFTs also have the potential to be used as collateral for loans. This is particularly beneficial for artists who may struggle with traditional financing options.

Platforms like Blur and X2Y2 already offer loans using NFTs as collateral, and Coinbase’s Instamint feature could open up this option to even more users. This provides a new avenue for artists to access funding and further monetize their work.

The Future of NFTs with Coinbase

Coinbase’s foray into the NFT space with Instamint is a significant step towards mainstream adoption. By simplifying the creation process, they are making it easier for the average person to participate in this growing market.

As more people become familiar with NFTs and their potential, we can expect to see even more innovative use cases and applications. And with Coinbase leading the way, it’s safe to say that NFTs are here to stay.

Conclusion

The introduction of Instamint by Coinbase has further solidified its position as a pioneer in the world of cryptocurrency. By democratizing the creation of NFTs, they are empowering artists, small businesses, and brands to tap into this emerging market.

With the help of AI technology, creating NFTs is no longer limited to a select few with technical knowledge and resources. It’s only a matter of time before we see even more groundbreaking developments in the world of NFTs, and Coinbase is leading the way towards that future.

In 2023, Sotheby’s, the renowned fine arts auction house, made a remarkable impact in the digital art sector with sales close to $35 million. According to Michael Bouhanna, the company’s vice president and head of digital art, the year was one of the most exciting for digital art.

First Live Digital Art Auction

One of the year’s highlights was Sotheby’s first live digital art auction, which drew 300 attendees and generated $12 million in sales. Among the notable sales was “Ringers #879” by digital artist Dmitri Cherniak, known as “The Goose” in the generative art community. This piece, sold for a record $6.2 million, showcases a unique blend of randomness and skill from creating art with randomized computer code, resulting in an image reminiscent of a waterfowl at the moment of its minting as an NFT.

Sotheby’s Commitment to Digital Art

Another notable achievement in the digital art space was the “Themes and Variations” collection, featuring 500 generative art NFTs. This collection, created by 99-year-old digital art pioneer Molnár and aided by Martin Grasser, achieved total sales of 631 Eth, equivalent to $1.2 million.

Sotheby’s conducted over 25 auctions dedicated to digital art, exclusively or as part of contemporary art sales. Also this year, Sotheby’s Metaverse, the auction house’s NFT marketplace, received an upgrade. The marketplace expanded to include not only primary market offerings but also secondary sales, allowing collectors to sell directly to each other.

The Palm Foundation, dedicated to fostering creative initiatives on the Palm Network, has recently unveiled a substantial grant for artists worth $45,000. The grant will be shared between distinguished artists chosen by the Patio curatorial committee to exhibit at Patio by ZsONAMACO. This outdoor exhibition takes place during the Art Baja California art fair, set for March 7-8, 2024, in San Jose, Baja California.

The event is hosted by ZsONAMACO, a leading art fair platform in Latin America, and will showcase various outdoor art installations and sculptures. Set in a truly stunning location, this exhibition attracts thousands of visitors and numerous exhibitors from all over the globe.

Fostering Creativity in Digital and Physical Art

The grant from the Palm Foundation empowers artists to craft large-scale physical artworks, ensuring their prominence at the event. Additionally, it aims to elevate Patio-curated artists by introducing their creations to the digital world. To do this, each grant recipient is required to mint 3 to 5 NFTs that reflect their physical artwork for the Patio by ZsONAMACO exhibit.

Furthermore, artists receiving the grant will benefit from technical support offered by the Palm Foundation, aiding them in crafting and minting the NFTs that complement their physical artworks. These digital creations will be issued on the Palm Network, a blockchain ecosystem devoted to creators and creativity. Notably, artists retain all intellectual and commercial rights to their work and will also have a choice of commercial platforms if they want to sell their NFTs.

The Palm Foundation’s Commitment to Artist Visibility

As a non-profit organization, The Palm Foundation is fully committed to boosting the profile of its talented artists. They encourage artists to submit one of their minted NFTs for a Palm DAO community vote, with the most popular artists receiving an additional $1,000 grant. With this, the Palm Foundation continues its mission to amplify the voices of artists and developers as they strive to empower these creative talents.

Moreover, this grant program is part of a broader initiative by the Palm Foundation, which includes similar programs for artist residencies in Mexico City and Berlin, offering artists a chance to grow professionally and expand their digital presence.

The Palm Foundation’s $45,000 grant offers artists at Patio by ZsONAMACO a fantastic opportunity to showcase their talents on a large scale and step into the ever-evolving world of NFTs. This initiative, bridging traditional physical exhibitions with digital platforms, marks a forward-thinking approach needed for art in the digital age. Moreover, it gives artists the essential tools and freedom to explore new dimensions of creativity and gain broader exposure.
